DETHORNED: An action to do away with misery...
Dethorned are 5 guys who eat, shit, and breathe brutal metal music. Spawned from the ass of Satan and the musical onslaught of death metal, Dethorned hailz from the H8-0-4, known as Richmond Virginia. These kats play with an intencity and determination that will hopefully land them in the right spot in the death metal scene to get picked up. Dave Tucker started this project known as Dethorned awhile back, going thru various different players for different positions.
It wasn't until summer '09 when Dave found his drummer and still current member Mike Abbott. They wrote and worked on songs for some time, again with different people, but yet the sound was not quite right, nor the personnel. In winter 2010 an long time old friend of Dave's came to play, long time guitarist Ellis Shifflett (Pyne) filled the void at the other end of the guitar spectrum and things sounded a bit better, but not yet there.
So late summer of 2010 rolls thru, Ellis gets a call from a young kat who's claims he can fill the main vox gap by the name of Josh Buttner. Dave, Mike, and Ellis worked with this dude to produce some nasty vocals, but still the rhythm section was lacking and they were on the search for an equally as heavy bassist. In the fall of that same year (2010), a NY resident and Bass enthusiest, Gauge "Gorebass" Schmidt heard thru a friend that these guys were in search of such a bottom end sound Gauge has been looking for, and the try outs began.
They liked his style and determination and all was a fit. Now it has arrived, and the sounds of distigquished unique death started coming together. With this line up they've shared the stage with such bands as: Suffocation, Decrepit Birth, Decapitated, Pathology, Possessed, Impale the Sun, Dying Fetus, and Six Feet Under, along with a few other national acts and quite a few local shows to get their sound across to the masses.
By the time June 2012 came, Dethorned went to NY to record their first official promo CD in a major studio known as Full Force Studios (Suffocation, Dehumanized, Internal Bleeding, etc..) with long time producer and studio engineer Joe Cincotta. It was also co-produced by Suffocation Bassist Derek Boyer, so naturally the 3 track promo came out brutally tight. The official release came at the end of July 2012, and immediately made an impact on sales and recognition.
But just when Dethorned thought all was going good, the floor fell out from under them in September of that year, when 2 year veteran and vocalist Josh decided he did not want to continue his journey and called it quits. This took the band by a slight surprise and definitely a major set back, but the band took it in stride and held vocal auditions right after Josh's departure.
With quite a few people coming to try out, none seem to hit that "tone" the guys were looking for. Then come mid October this really young dude named Jeremy Ferneyhough from Charlottesville, VA (who has seen a live Dethorned performance) got the invite to come try out. Kid's got a new vocal tone that the guys liked and what the music needed...new life, something different but yet familiar.
All was working good and promising for the first 4 months w/ Jeremy, until...and yep, you guessed it, the kid couldn't hack it anymore and quit. Now it's back to the drawing board for these guys to find that brutal person with the pipes. They are currently taking vox/bass auditions while still doing what they love...their music!
So currently there ya have it, updates will be posted on who or what is next. Currently as of end July 2013, this is what the what is, the band has had it's ups and downs for the past year, they've been in the process of writing new material, but things have gotten so out of turn it seems with the drive and collective focus, that veteran bassist Gauge "Gorebass" Schmidt had his own personal agendas to take care of and had to leave with his best regards to all. So at 3 years old officially to the scene these guys have been thru some shit...but don't give up on them just yet, I'm sure they'll be more brutality to come in the near future from Dave, Ellis, and Mike!!
