Veloninos (also spelled Véloniños) is a Scottish band with roots in Americana, country, rockabilly, and rock 'n' roll. The name appears to be a play on the Spanish and French words for "cyclists," possibly in homage to the Tour de France.
About the band:
Members: The band is made up of former members of other well-known bands, including Davie Duncan and Kenny McLellan (ex-Shakin' Pyramids) and Laurie Cuffe and Shug Jamieson (ex-Cuban Heels).
Origins: Duncan and McLellan originally penned new songs for a potential Shakin' Pyramids reunion. Two years later, a session with old friends Cuffe and Jamieson inspired them to form a new group.
Influences: The band's musical style is inspired by artists like Hank Williams, Gene Vincent, and the Everly Brothers.
Music and releases:
Debut album: Veloninos released a self-titled debut album in February 2016, which included new tracks along with songs from a previously released digital EP.
Signature song: The album features their signature track, "Hey Velonino!," which is a tribute to the Tour de France.
Critical acclaim: The album received a glowing review from The Daily Record, which called the group "masters at work".
Availability: Their music is available on streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud. Their Bandcamp page also provides details about the band's work.
