Augusta’s best cigar shop since 2004.

As Evans began expanding as an Augusta, Georgia suburb in the early 2000s, cigar enthusiasts like our founder and CEO Russell Wilder noticed something missing from the area – a cigar shop. At the time, the closest place to purchase fine cigars was on the other side of town. To remedy this, Russell took a leap of faith and opened his own shop in the Evans area to cater to him and other local enthusiasts. Opening the shop was a risky feat at the time, as the population of Evans was only 95,000. Traditionally a cigar shop needs around 150,000 people to be successful, by industry standards. Now approaching 20 years later, it’s safe to say Russell’s risk paid off. Today, we are more than a simple cigar store – we don’t just sell cigars, we incorporate them into our lifestyles and have developed a passion for all things tobacco. Since 2004, Top Shelf Cigar and Tobacco Shoppe has been Augusta’s premier cigar stop.

Russell Wilder has had a passion for cigars since his early 20s. In his youth, he would scrape together money to go out and buy one as often as he could. One day, his mother purchased him a coffee table book about Cuban cigars at a garage sale for fifty cents. Reading this book peaked Russell’s interest in cigars and, ultimately, triggered a passion. He has since traveled all over the world to fully immerse himself in the world of cigars. His visits have reached from Estelí, Nicaragua, Danli, Honduras, Santiago, Bonao, Villa Gonzales, Dominican Republic, and beyond. When Russell was asked to provide advice to new cigar enthusiasts, he said: “Smoke less, smoke better.”
